Improve Audio Quality for Transcription
The most effective accuracy improvements happen during recording. A clear microphone signal is more valuable than aggressive cleanup after the fact.
Move the microphone closer
Distance adds room echo and lowers the speech-to-noise ratio. Keep a comfortable, consistent distance without causing breath noise or clipping.
Control competing sounds
Close windows, silence notifications and avoid music under speech. Ask participants not to speak over one another when possible.
Watch recording levels
Audio that clips cannot be fully repaired. Record a short test and keep peaks below the recorder’s maximum level.
Keep the original file
Exporting and re-exporting lossy formats can remove speech detail. Upload the best original recording and review uncertain terms with timestamps.
